An individual who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained the man went on to play the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the police once more.
She said Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
